Gorazde: Contact us if you have footage, information, or other evidence about the killing of dogs — or if you have faced pressure from institutions
The Prosecutor’s Office of the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton (BPC) Gorazde has opened a case after receiving several criminal complaints via email regarding the alleged illegal killing of stray dogs.
The complaints were filed against individuals from the City Administration, municipal utility services, veterinary and inspection authorities, as well as other persons involved in these events.
Based on the complaints, the on-duty prosecutor instructed the Ministry of Interior of BPC Gorazde to collect the necessary information and verify the allegations. Once the documentation is gathered, the Prosecutor’s Office will decide on further actions.
One of the requests to the Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Interior was submitted by a group called “Citizens of Gorazde”. They insist on an urgent investigation to, as they state, “establish the full truth” about the treatment of stray dogs.
The complaints also call for a financial and inspection review of the work of animal protection associations in Gorazde and throughout the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), due to suspicions of irregular use of public and donor funds. Additionally, they request the initiation of proceedings against unknown persons for allegedly illegally removing dogs to private properties and obstructing the work of competent authorities.
All the complaints followed an incident in which a dog attacked an eight-year-old boy, sparking citizen protests, the removal of dogs from the streets, and strong reactions from animal welfare associations, which claim that the dogs were being killed.
The legal-criminal team of the Korina Association is calling on all those who have verified information about these events, or who possess video recordings, photographs, and other material evidence but have not yet provided them to the competent authorities, to do so in order to fully establish the truth and bring all perpetrators to justice. Citizens who wish to communicate with us regarding these allegations — and who fall into the mentioned category or have been pressured by members of certain institutions to discourage them from reporting the alleged crimes or testifying about them — may contact us via email at legalteam@korina.me or through our social media channels.
